LOVE GOD. LOVE PEOPLE. TOUCH LIVES!
Since 1982 Karen Duffy, the founder and director of Come to the Rainforest Foundation, has had a heart for the indigenous peoples of the Amazonian rainforest. While in Bible college Karen had a strong desire to serve the indigenous who live in this remote rainforest. But Karen’s life went in several different directions, all moving her farther and farther away from the dream of serving in the rainforest. The desire and dream was tucked carefully away in a secret place of her heart. Karen thought she would never serve in the rainforest. But God has such a love for His children that He knows their secret desires and dreams and is willing to make them come true...at just the right time.
Well you guessed it! In 2012, 30 years after her dream began, Karen found herself going on a medical mission to the Ecuadorian rainforest. Karen’s dream became a reality. As you can imagine, Karen went and it didn’t take her long to simply fall in love with the indigenous peoples. One trip was not enough; a hundred trips will never be enough!
Come to the Rainforest Foundation emerged out of Karen's pursuit to inspire and support remote indigenous communities, and a desire for her actions to speak louder than words.
Come to the Rainforest Foundation desires to connect caring people with unique opportunities to work alongside the rainforest tribes. To fulfill that mission, the Come to the Rainforest organizes and leads four differently focused short-term opportunities: cultural immersion trips, faith-based mission experiences, humanitarian initiatives such as medical and vision trips, and educational focused trips.
If you have a willing heart and a loving spirit, you are most welcome and Karen hopes that you will join her and COME TO THE RAINFOREST!
PLEASE NOTE: Come to the Rainforest Foundation's vision is to see the indigenous peoples train, teach, support and minister to other indigenous peoples. We strive to use resources from within the country as much as possible. We do not wish to promote dependency or paternalism as a result of a hand out. We actively seek to partner with foreign and local Non-Government Organizations (NGO) and churches to help support our endeavors.
Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Come to the Rainforest Foundation emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the indigenous communities of the Ecuadorian rainforest, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words.
